Excerpt from a live Q & A event in 2012. Facilitated by Keith Rosen.
Video Transcript:
Who created the culture and environment that exists within your team? You created that environment. And don’t lose sight of the fact that not only is it your responsibility to create that coaching culture if you will, that positive environment; it is entirely in your power to create the culture of champions that you want.
Now, many managers respond to this by saying, “Keith, you don’t understand. I work for a global company. We are a result driven, metrics driven organization.”
I’ve heard that a couple of times.
Here’s the thing, if you work for a larger organization, and large is subjective by the way, and you look at your company; trying to change a culture sometimes is like trying to move a battleship. And it can feel very overwhelming.
But my question that I pose to you is this— How do you change a culture? How do you develop talent?
One conversation at a time. One person at a time.
Honoring this philosophy organically creates the changes you want within your team because regardless of your culture, your people interact with you everyday. Well guess what? In essence, You’re the culture. You create the culture you want on your team. And, the good news is, that is in your power.
